Love Ya Mean It at Lost Creek

Sunday February 28th marked our first golf playday of 2010 - the Lorenzo and Sandra Fitzpatrick await the final scorecardsLove Ya Mean It Tournament, played at Lost Creek. The event was well attended by both members and guests, 9 teams of four players participating in a shamble (take best drive of the team, then everyone plays their own ball). Score is then based on the lowest net score per hole of the 4 players in the team. Congratulations to the winning teams with some incredible net scores - the format was of great advantage to high handicappers!

With a cold front advancing and a biting wind whipping up as we completed our rounds, the players took refuge in the club house to hear the final results. Since we were a mixed crowd, and the Men's Locker room was open, which includes several TVs and a bar, it was a great option!

Results:

  • 1st Place with net 47 - Carol Sheehan, Cyndi Hernandez, Tim & Bea Kernan
  • 2nd Place with net 48 - Laurie Ben, Trish Hoener, Teri Evans and Brian Flynn
  • 3rd Place with net 50 (scorecard play off) - Pam Garcia, Sandy Wood, Terry Kroenung and Patrice Griffith

Prizes were also awarded based on handicaps in the following categories:

  • Closest to the pin - Teri Evans (25 & under), Liz Salinas (26 & over)
  • Longest Drive - Vicki Woodcock (25 & under), Bea Kernan (26 & over)

A large contingent finished off the evening with a meal at Tres Amigos, close by on 360.

Many thanks to Sandra Fitzpatrick for organizing the event, tallying up the results and awarding the prizes. Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next play day - Teravista, Sunday March 14th!

Carol Sloan (left) and Maria Duncan at the July 2009 AWGA play day at Avery Ranch, hosted by Austin EWGA

By default, our chapter is part of the Austin Women’s Golf Association.  This is the oldest Women’s Golf Association in Texas, and the cost to join is only $5.  Membership to the AWGA allows you to participate in their play days at private courses such as Great Hills Country Club and The Hills Country Club, as well as compete in the Austin City Championship.

AWGA Tournaments are filled by a quota system, with every club allotted a proportional number of spaces to each event.  Click here for the schedule of 2010 events. For very exclusive venues, which tend to be the most popular for attendance, we can easily use up our quota, so it is to everyone's benefit to enroll ASAP to ensure we have a large quota! Our quota will be based on membership as of March 1st – so please consider becoming a member ASAP!

Send your $5 membership fee to AWGA Representatives, Cheri Hisaw or Cindy Spears below, you may join the AWGA throughout the season, final deadline is late summer for the Austin City Championship.
